Email: Outlook Web App and Microsoft Office 365

Getting to Microsoft Office 365:



Checking your email on the Web

Note: If you are an Applicant, click here.

Microsoft Office 365 users, go to Outlook Web App. Outlook Web App uses the proprietary Microsoft protocol to let you view emails via Microsoft Office 365.

NOTE: Although Microsoft Office 365 is a hosted version of Microsoft's Server products, Cal Poly Pomona's Appropriate Use Policy still applies to all users.

To log into your Microsoft (MS) Office 365 account:

  1. Go to: http://www.outlook.com/csupomona.edu (link opens in new window).
  2. For the User ID text box, enter your Cal Poly Pomona email address (e.g.: bbronco@csupomona.edu).
  3. For the password text box, enter your MS Office 365 password.

    Note: If you haven't set your MS Office 365 password yet, see the directions on setting up your MS Office 365 password.

  4. Uncheck the box that says "Keep me signed in" (recommended if you are on a publicly-shared computer).
  5. Click the "Sign in" button.

The Microsoft Office 365 Toolbar

Once you log into your Cal Poly Pomona Office 365 email account, you will see the MS Office 365 toolbar displayed at the top of the page.

A. Outlook - When you login to your email, you will be brought to this page. On this page, you will be able to see your email and email folders list. When displayed, selecting this from another page will return you to your email.

B. Calendar – Selecting this will take you to your Outlook Calendar. By double clicking a date within the calendar, you can enter appointments and reminders. To edit an event you have already entered, single click the event and then select “EDIT” in the popup window that will appear.

C. People – Your list of contacts will be contained here. Your contacts may consist of Individuals or Groups. To create a new contact, select the button located at the top left corner of the page.

D. Ellipses (. . .) – Selecting this will open the Office.com page.

E. Your Name – Selecting this will then allow you to Sign Out of your account.

F. Gear Icon ( 365 03B.jpg) – Will display your options menu. Here you can change the theme for your Email account and under Options you can view settings for your email signature, blocked and allowed contacts and settings for using an email client with Office 365.

G. Question Mark (?) – From here you can use the Outlook Web App Help system, view the Privacy Notice and provide feedback to Microsoft.

H. Smiley Face Emoticon ( 365 03C.jpg) – Using this will provide another method/option for providing feedback.

Checking your email with an email program

A program that you run on your local computer that allows you to read and send email is called an "email client". Any client that supports either the SSL POP3 and SSL IMAP protocol can be used with Cal Poly Pomona email.

Any email client can connect to Microsoft Office 365, but most users connect via Outlook.

Finding your server settings:

To find your server settings:

  1. Go to: http://www.outlook.com/csupomona.edu (link opens in new window).
  2. For the User ID text box, enter your Cal Poly Pomona email address (e.g.: bbronco@csupomona.edu).
  3. For the password text box, enter your MS Office 365 password.

    Note: If you haven't set your MS Office 365 password yet, see the directions on setting up your MS Office 365 password.

  4. Uncheck the box that says "Remember Me" (recommended if you are on a publicly-shared computer).
  5. Click the "Sign in" button.
  6. Select the Gear icon shown at the top right of your Outlook 365 page.

  7. Click Options.
  8. Click Account.
  9. Click Settings for POP or IMAP access.
    1. The POP3, IMAP and SMTP server name and other settings you may need to enter when configuring your email client should now be displayed within a new window.
