Alertus

Introduction

Alertus Desktop Alert, emergency notification software, is being installed on all faculty and staff computers as well as classroom and lab computers. In the event of an emergency, the Alertus Desktop Alert will send safety messages to all campus computers instantaneously: a full-screen alert will open on active campus-owned computers.

Used in conjunction with the university’s current emergency messaging outlets (Safety Alert System, university website, electronic marquees and social media), Alertus will be used to notify the campus of issues affecting safety, health or well-being such as a campus fire, building evacuation, etc. Campus emergency notifications are sent via the Office of Public Affairs. No personal information is gathered or transmitted.

Icon Glossary

For PC users, the Alertus icon will be located on the right-side of your taskbar (at the bottom).

For Mac users, the Alertus icon will be located on the right-side of your menu bar (at the top).

A yellow Alertus icon in your task/menu bar means that the Alertus desktop agent is in communication with the Alertus desktop notification server and can receive emergency alerts.

A red Alertus icon in your task/menu bar means that the Alertus desktop agent is installed on your computer but is not in contact with the Alertus desktop notification server. Your computer will NOT receive emergency alerts at this time. However, when you computer is connected, either on-campus or via VPN off-campus, the icon will change to yellow and will receive emergency notifications.

If you don’t see an Alertus icon in your task/menu bar at all that means that the Alertus agent is NOT installed on your computer and you will not receive emergency desktop alerts at all. To get the Alertus agent installed, contact the Help Desk by submitting a Help Desk ticket (you will need to know your BroncoName and BroncoPassword). If you can't log into Web Help Desk (WHD), use the help request form or stop by the Cal Poly Pomona Help Desk in Building 1, Room 100.

Note: Help Desk hours may be modified to 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, when classes are not in session during the winter and spring breaks.

Help Desk Summer Hours:

  • Monday through Thursday: 7:00 AM - 6:00 PM
  • Fridays: Closed
  • Exception: Regular Business Hours during the weeks of June 30, 2014 – July 3, 2014 and July 28, 2014 - August 1, 2014.
